DOCUMENT:Q111679 22-FEB-1994 [W_NT] TITLE :Fujitsu M2511A Doesn't Recognize Disk Change PRODUCT :Windows NT PROD/VER:3.10 OPER/SYS:WINDOWS KEYWORDS: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== Windows NT fails to recognize a disk change in Fujitsu M2511A Magneto Optical disk drive. The directory displayed is the same as the previous disk. CAUSE ===== The disk drive is shipped with incorrect settings for proper operation with Windows NT. The default settings do not recognize the Unit Attention signal which is generated when an error or disk change occurs. The system ignores this event and does not recognize disk changes. RESOLUTION ========== To allow the drive to operate correctly the drive switches must be configured as follows: There are two switch blocks, SW1 and SW2. SW1 has four switches and SW2 has eight. SW2-3 and SW2-5 must be on and SW2-7 must be off in order for Windows NT to recognize disk changes. In addition, the disk must be partitioned with Disk Administrator as type FAT. MORE INFORMATION ================ Switch SW1 ---------- SW1 determines the SCSI ID. It has the following configurations: SCSI ID SW1-2 SW1-3 SW1-4 ------------------------------- 0 OFF OFF OFF 1 OFF OFF ON 2 OFF ON OFF 3 OFF ON ON 4 ON OFF OFF 5 ON OFF ON 6 ON ON OFF 7 ON ON ON NOTE: SW1-1 is not used and should remain in the off position.
